I have to share this somewhere, ANYWHERE...
I have a very dear friend that I met when I first came online all the way back in the olden days of 2003. (I signed up for my first message board on December 27, 2003 and we had been online for all of a week). Anyway, I met this man within my first month on the Internet. He has his own message board that I don't post on nearly enough anymore (I used to be one of the most verbose).
Anyway, he was one of the people who helped me six years ago when I was thrust into the world of renaissance faires. I needed help throwing together a quick and affordable outfit and he offered advice and links and so on. Through him, I met another friend who actually gifted me an expensive belt. I lost touch with him because he sort of dropped off the 'net a couple years ago. But the other guy, he's always around. (I'm gonna call him A).
So, after knowing each other for six years, A and his wife scheduled a trip up from Texas to go to the ren faire here in Wisconsin. Which meant I had no way to back out (I'd been able to blame health issues for missing the big faire). A few weeks before the trip, A's wife passed away. She'd been unwell and I'm still not sure all of what she had wrong with her. We (a mutual online friend from Chicago) weren't sure A would make the trip, but his wife would have wanted him to and he did. He didn't turn in her ticket though, he left her seat empty on the plane.
Then, A came back last year for opening weekend. And it was a grand time.
Now, since last year, he dated a little bit and fell in love with a wonderful lady (B) and they got married a few weeks ago. She's also a ren-faire person and they're both coming up next week for the opening weekend at Bristol.
A sent me a message today and asked me for Ceej's waist size (she's my 18 year old daughter who will be going to faire with me as much as humanly possible). He said he had "a couple gently used skirts and some things..." that Ceej might be able to use. Including a belt made by the guy who made mine.
He didn't explicitly say they were his late wife's but I know they are. And I'm so very happy that he thought of us instead of just tossing them out or whatever else one does with a late spouse's things. Ren faire garb is expensive and quality leather work is hard to find.
But that gesture- it means so much to me and it made me teary-eyed.
I can't wait to see A and B next week (I'll be meeting her for the first time). And I can't wait to see the belt that the friend made.
I just wanted to share that because it made me feel good. And teary.
