You need an enterprising person to invent some sort of knee guard, like those things they put at the foot of beds to keep the blankets from laying on your feet - then you could wear long pants, without anything touching your scar. I mean, you'd look ridiculous, but that's half the fun.

So, had my sex week check up today. No PT! Ever! In fact, I got scolded for overdoing it. Bad me.
Last week I banged the incision site pretty good, and it swelled enough for me to lose some of the range of motion I had. I've almost gained it all back, and was told to ease off on myself, the doctors would prefer I heal a little more slowly, so it heals right.
But I wanna be well now!
And, the scar is going to be ugly. It's forming a keloid, but it's all cosmetic so no worries, really. Anyone who doesn't like it when I wear shorts or skirts can bite my ass.

They can bite my ass too. You shouldn't get all the action.

I'm willing to share. Some of it, at least. I've already had one cow-irker tell me she hoped I didn't wear skirts after this. I'm tempted to wear one everyday, no tights or hose, now. And I hate skirts!

Oh, you need to push that boundary as hard as you can. There must be dozens of things you can do that will drive her crazy without getting you in any trouble. If I think of any, you will be the FIRST to know.

Well, a skirt for the first day back, of course, and probably a few days after that. I've got an RX creme that has to go on the scar pretty often, and I'm not running all the way across the building to do so.
The creme is odorless, but I bet she'll complain about that, too. Heh.
I like her, otherwise, and I'm sorry healing scars upset her, but my body, my clothing choices (within the dress code, of course!)

I'm annoyed for you. Seriously, if I had overheard someone say something like that, I don't think I would have been able to keep my stupid mouth shut.
I'd rather look at someone's healing keloid scar all day long than have to have a 15 minute conversation with someone who would actually think they have a right to tell someone to hide their scar.
Don't mind me, on a scale of 1-10, my pissy mood is at an 11 today.

That's ok. She made the mistake of saying something where my supervisor could hear while I was in yesterday with some FMLA paperwork. She got hauled to his supervisors office, and was made to apologize to me.
I'm ok with that outcome.

She was asking why I was still out on FMLA, and doubting that it was needed. She's a busybody. We're short handed at work, and she thinks I should have waited, so she's doing her best to make my surgery/recovery an issue.
And I actually did wait until we were less shorthanded. We're always shorthanded. I work for the department with the highest turnover rate in my company.

Love it. God, that must have KILLED her to have to apologize to you! Delight!

I hated wearing anything but jeans in public. For a while, I did it, because I had to. Hated it anyway. I show my scar to anyone who asks. My kids hate it because I'll even ask if someone wants to see it, I don't care. If I didn't have the swelling issues I have, I'd wear skirts all the time just to show it off. (I named it- Fronkensteen). But if anyone else has a problem with your scar, I think you should go into great and gory detail about how it almost split open when you saw a tiny thread sticking out of it and thought it was a wayward stitch. You tugged on it and whoa! The whole thing split open and you thought your knee guts were going to spill out everywhere. But luckily, the lady sitting next to you had a clean Always with wings and you were able to mush it back together as you gimped into the ER for a fresh stitch-up. But I'm a bitch that way.

Patty, I think I love you. So, next question for everyone: When will I be able to complete a to-do list again? I moved this weekend. Yesterday, that's all I did, pack up the last minute stuff, direct the movers, unpack the kitchen, bathroom, and bed, and get milk. That's fine. Today, I wanted to finish unpacking the kitchen (2 boxes), unpack the closet (6 boxes, 3 of which get dumped right into the file cabinet. I boxed the files by drawer, and in order), finish cleaning the other apartment (floors only, everything else was done) go to Target and the grocery store. I got the kitchen done, the other place cleaned, and went to Target. That's it! and I'm exhausted. I feel like I should be back to "normal" by now, and I'm not. I'm at the 7 week mark, am I just expecting too much of myself?

Yes. Yes you are. Seven weeks your body is still under "trauma" from the whole thing.
When I had my knee replacement, the nurse said: "Think about it, your body was just assaulted- you had bones removed- like a double amputation- and then had metal pounded into it. As if that wasn't enough, you had foreign objects prodding around in it."
So your body was literally assaulted. And you have to take into account the anesthesia as well. That stays in your body for anywhere up to three months (not literally in your body, but your body feels the effects for up to that long).
